College is more than just "after high school". It is an entirely different world, where you are in the drivers seat instead of your parents. Careful planning goes a long way toward setting yourself up to succeed and thrive.

Dont worry about choosing your major right away. Most schools give you until your junior year to select a major, so you should take time to explore different options and figure out what you most enjoy and might want to make a career out of before you select your major.

Take part in all the activities you can during your college years. By participating in a variety of activities, you will have a better resume for future employment applications. Make sure you only take on what you can handle so your grades dont slip.

Networking is one of the smartest things that you can do while you are in college. This will help you to not only broaden your group of friends, but also expand your possibilities when you are out of college looking for a job. Do not dismiss anyone in college, as they could be valuable to your future.

Going to college is a real commitment. If you are thinking about getting an education, you need to make sure you will have enough time to attend classes and do your homework. You might have to make some changes to your schedule, talk to your family and to your employer before you enroll for school.

Take advantage of the office hours offered by your academic instructors. These hours are provided for your benefit. There is no better source of help or information about a class than the person who teaches it! Use the time to ask questions, seek clarification, or discuss your in-class performance.

Consider living in a dorm room during your first year at college. While its not as fashionable as having your own apartment, its a great way to become more involved in campus life. Youll be close to other students, making you more likely to make new friends and avoid the loneliness of living alone.

Create good and long lasting friendships with the professors you have. Professors can be a huge help in your college career. Ask them questions and offer to provide them with assistance as well. Creating a relationship with your professor will help you to get ahead in many ways, both during and after college.

Exercise

Get up early to start your day off right. You should get up at 7, eat a good breakfast, and get ready for your morning class or start studying.

If you are in class and find yourself bored out of your mind, do yourself a favor and stay until it ends. Often times college kids exercise their right to leave whenever they want but you never know when you will miss some truly important information. So make sure to attend every class in its entirety.

Get serious about exercise. Exercise is something that many students dont get enough of. Because weight gain is so normal in college freshmen especially, you have to make the time to get a small workout in so you can stay slim and fit. Think about jogging or using the campus pool to do your workouts.

Nutrition

Every freshman should understand and realize that the freshman 15 does in fact exist. It is important that everyone take the necessary steps to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition during their first year in college. While it might be tempting to pile on some fries for dinner every night, youll pay for it in the long run.

These tips will help you adapt to your new life as a college student and all the opportunities ahead of you. This represents a part of life about which knowledge is critical in order to get an optimal experience.
